The Laurels - Pet Center, Cemetery and Aquamation Center
Your pet has given you and your family years of joy and unconditional love, so we understand how deeply you love your pet and how much they mean to you.
The Laurels is a beautifully designed cemetery and center specially created to honor your pet’s memory.
Conveniently located on the grounds of West Laurel Hill in a distinct area, The Laurels is a private serene sanctuary; a perfect resting place for your special family member. This three acre landscaped and wooded property includes a walking trail for loved ones to enjoy while visiting and remembering.
Our caring and professional staff has served families since 1869 and will tend to your pet in the same loving, respectful and exceptional way. Our pet packages offer dignified services and a final resting place for your pet.
With excellence in mind, we offer private visitations and intimate memorial services in our cozy pet center.
If you choose ground burial for your pet; small, medium or large property packages are available.
In lieu of traditional flame cremation, Aquamation is a gentle,
eco-friendly option that is water-based – the first of its kind for pets in
Pennsylvania. Alkaline Hydrolisis is the scientific name for this process. We use
a combination of water flow, temperature and alkalinity to accelerate nature’s
process. It releases no greenhouse gases and has only 10 percent of the carbon
footprint with no mercury emissions into the atmosphere as compared to flame
cremation. This process is 95 percent water and 5 percent alkali (the chemical
opposite of an acid). We then use the remaining solution to fertilize the grounds of our pet cemetery and common gardens.
Pets are aquamated in their own compartment in the Aquamation unit. Each pet receives a unique metal tag number that follows the pet through the entire process and time in our care. At the conclusion of this process, we will either return the aquamated remains to the veterinarian or the family to make further arrangements. Should you wish to choose a final resting place after Aquamation, property packages and a scattering garden are available.
Grief is a personal experience; one you need not face alone. Many forms of support are available, including local pet bereavement groups, pet -loss support hotlines, books and more. For articles on how you can mourn your beloved pet, click here.
